Argentine tango, as it is performed and danced today, was developed in the middle of the twentieth century in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay. Today, it is danced all over the world, and the Pioneer Valley is no exception. For over thirty years, a small but vibrant community of impassioned dancers has developed. This community is maintained by several key organizers and teachers, whose dedication to the tango and its cultural significance has continued to interest college students and town members alike. These different groups come together in several different locations to dance and practice together. They are supported by others who provide them places to dance, money for events, and even tailored shoes for their hobby.
